By the time + present (future meaning)

Can use the present simple with ‘by the time’ to refer to the future.

By the time he gets home, he will just want to go straight to bed.
By the time you arrive the information office at the airport will be closed, as at 11.00 o’clock a full day strike will start.

If we search for any word found 5 spaces to the right of this expression “By the time”, on the NOW corpus, we discover that half the words are past forms, which suggests this expression is possibly more common with past tenses or perfect.
