Indefinite pronouns are pronouns that do not refer to a specific person or thing. They are used when we want to refer to an unknown or unspecified entity.
Here are two examples of indefinite pronouns in ellipted conditional clauses:
Anything we can do, anything you need, just tell us.
Anything you want there, anything at all, just take it.
*They mean: “if there is anything that we can do” or “if there is anything that you want”
C1 point 100 in PRONOUNS/indefinite is defined as:
‘anything’ in an ellipted clause. (‘if there is anything …’)
When looking at the English Grammar Profile examples, we can see that they all contain a following imperative clause. The usage is similar to ‘polite offers’.
Anything else you need, ask …
Anything you need …, please don’t hesitate ….
Anything you want …., feel free ….
*Looking at ‘need’ or ‘want’ shows that the adverb ‘just’ is most common in the main clause. Also, note that there are two ‘anything’ clauses in our first examples.
*This requires manually checking all entries below. There is no way to automatically differentiate ‘if there is anything’ from a relative clause.
