While searching for structures in the English Vocabulary Profile, we sometimes find structures we are not sure why they are listed at a certain complexity. For example:
walk NOUN
A2 a journey that you make by walking, often for enjoyment
a short/ten-minute, etc. walk =
B2 a journey that takes a short time/ten minutes, etc. when you walk
For example:
If it‘s all right, I thought I might take a short walk.
‘A short walk’ seems rather simple to be included at B2.
There is an English Grammar Point at B2 that covers compound adjectives with hyphens and a B1 point that covers a range of attributive adjectives. We are interested in what other noun phrases especially with hyphenated adjectives follow this structure and should be considered also to be at B2 as a minimum even if they are not listed in the EVP or EGP. Here are examples expressing duration or a period length:
Canopy Growth stock now has a 52-week low of $2.13 and a 52-week high of $20.73.
The region was hit by 8 to 10 inches of rainfall in a 24-hour period,
what experts called a one in a thousand-year rain event.
